1998. 'Promised Land'

Pam Tillis calls her recent acting roles - co-starring as the same character on back-to-back episodes of Promised Land and Diagnosis Murder - a "learning experience". "I was invited to do the shows, and I enjoyed the experience a lot," she says. "I'm still learning, so I felt vulnerable - you know, people watching me learn. "I played the same character on both shows - Kate Matthews. I was a con artist, but I was trying to reform so I could raise my daughter right, be a good momma. But I knew too much and took a bullet." She particularly enjoyed working with Dick Van Dyke, the star of Diagnosis Murder. "He's a really, really nice man," Pam says. "He's wonderful, twinkly, bubbly - write all the superlatives you can think of and then end them with an exclamation point!"
